Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) provides block-level storage volumes for use with EC2 instances. One thing a physical Hard Drive does not have and EBS volume have is its flexibility. EBS Volumes are highly flexible, you can dynamically increase size, change volume type, and modify the provisioned IOPS capacity on a live Server.

This tutorial contains:

  • How to extend/resize AWS Elastic Block Store (EBS) Volume in Linux Instance.

Attention: ⚠

Before trying this on a production server, I would recommend you take an AMI backup of the instance or Snapshot of the Volume. Taking backup is recommended for safety purposes.
